New Year
Nothing's nicer than having our closest friends and family over to bring in the bells on Hogmanay. Wherever they're headed for the evening, everyone always comes back to our place in time for the chimes. Warm stovies fresh out of the Aga washed down with a glass of something cold and bubbly from the fridge makes for a grand midnight feast.
When it's time to move through to the sitting room for some songs around the piano - our friend Jim always makes a beeline for it - I'll make sure we take a couple of wine coolers with us. I won't want to miss out on the fun when the singers amongst us begin to work up a thirst.
Chances are we'll end up with a few unexpected overnight guests kipping on the sofa. Living in the country means it's a long walk home! So I'll be stocking up the fridge with all of the ingredients for the perfect fry up - bloody Marys included - to make sure that New Year's Day begins on the right note.
